Poha

Poha is made from flattened and is good for a light snack or for . This dish can have many variants and is probably made a little differently in every home. Here’s how I make it.

Flattened rice breakfast or light snackYou’ll need:

  • 500gm Poha [flattened rice]
  • 50gm Finely chopped fresh ginger
  • Handful leaves
  • 50gm Fried plain peanuts
  • 100gm Chopped onions
  • A few Dry red chillies [opt]
  • 3 – 4 Chopped green chillies [opt]
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 3 medium size boiled , peeled
  • 1 level tbsp Chilli powder
  • to taste
  • 1 level tbsp Turmeric powder []
  • Oil

Method:

  1. Sprinkle the poha with water, and lightly knead. Do not soak. Set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pan. Add red chili powder, haldi, salt, mustard seeds, curry leaves.
  3. A few seconds later [the mustard should crackle], add the ginger and onions
  4. till the onions give a hint of browning at the edges
  5. Add the red chillies, peanuts, green chilies.
  6. Fry for a minute.
  7. Crumble the potatoes into the mixture
  8. Mix the whole lot well
  9. Add the poha.
  10. Toss.
  11. Serve with pickle. [thats red chilli pickle in the picture]
