How my Sister in Law became ‘Sweetheart’ to a hundred

Call it anything you want, but this is one tale that I just couldn’t resist telling.

My brother, Sameer, an Ex-Army officer is married to his long time girl friend, Navnita. Being rather straitlaced and methodical about things like keeping in touch, sending birthday cards and all of that, he has an address book that runs into hundreds. I’m talking actual people here that he is in touch with in the real world, not the hundreds of e-contacts all of us tend to accumulate. To add to that, he and his group tend to exchange rather strong opinions on quite a number of topics.

Navnita is a Bengali by birth, Delhiite by upbringing and foodie by choice. She and Sameer have a 1 year+ son, Sanav. For some reason, Sameer thought it fit to rename his wife’s address entry from ‘Navnita Khullar’ to ‘Sweetheart’. Thats them on the left, getting romantic at 13,500 feet above sea level.

Now, thats perfectly alright, you can call your wife anything you want – Snookiemush, Moofiedoodle, Cutielover, Woogysmoosh, Wookumsmoochbunny, Moogliemoopiepie, Moopsienookum or anything else that comes to mind – thats one thing. Sharing it with the world is probably another.

Now, my brother decided to share a rather explosive opinion with his contact list, including his wife, who was listed as ‘Sweetheart’. Most recipients decided to become respondents and on replying, *all* their address books on Google mail, updated the entry ‘Navnita Khullar’, to… yup, you got it – Sweetheart!

How did this story come to light? One of Sameer’s contacts, composing an unrelated mail later, with his wife by his side, had a rather rough night and a stormy morning, trying to explain how Mrs Navnita Khullar was listed in his address book as ‘Sweetheart’. Needless to say, his wife wasn’t amused.
