Breakfasts are going out of fashion I think. Most people I know confess to a quick piece of toast with a cup of coffee as their peace offering to a tummy deprived of sustenance. Mercifully, Sundays seem to see many indulging in their favorite foods included in late breakfasts. Me, I love large breakfasts, with plenty of meats, veggies and fried goodies on the table accompanied by fresh breads and of course, fresh brewed coffee.

The All American Diner at Habitat World, IHC offers precisely that kind of stuff, only they’ve made it even better now. We sampled their newly introduced Sunshine Breakfast and I’m happy to say, most dishes passed muster and all in all, well worth a visit.

The very first platter I tried was the Roast Lamb platter, which came with a lovely brown sauce and a pile of vegetables. Yes, it was a brunch dish, but when it comes to red meat, I really don’t discriminate. The roast lamb was tender and succulent and went very well with the sauce, which was perfectly balanced. We also sampled their pancakes (fluffy, light), Quiche Lorraine, Fritata (under seasoned), crispy bacon, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, baked beans (I didn’t like the sauce much), chicken sausage, vegetarian lasagna, baked hash and corn and porridge. There was more, but a man can only eat so much you see.

Though I did enjoy myself tremendously, there were a few things that I should point out. The chicken sausages had developed a sort of hard crust, probably from overheating or being constantly heated for a long period of time. While this didn’t affect the taste, it didn’t look too good. The Lasagna, while tasting lovely, wasn’t quite a Lasagna, as the layers were missing. I could only see two pasta sheets in there – one at the top below the cheese topping and one at the bottom, with the middle being a rich, delicious but mono-layered mixture.

There’s very little to say about the ambiance at the All American Diner – comfortable, functional and unpretentious are words that come to mind. Just right for a long, family style breakfast where you don’t have to bother about your kids scuffing the furniture and stern glances from an uppity Maitre d’. If you like buffet breakfasts, I guarantee you’ll love the Sunshine Breakfast at the All American Diner.
