One of the things I really miss in Delhi/NCR is a good bakery that produces real breads of different varieties. Most I’ve seen are cosmetically innovative but lack depth. For example, they’re cashing in on the trend for Bagels by producing Bagel shaped bread, without looking deeper into the Bagel making process. Now that I’m on the subject, the only places I’ve seen real Bagels are Bagels Cafe (classic Dutch bagels – the very best!) and Bagels and Brownies (good Bagels, substandard fillings).
Cinnabon therefore comes as a welcome addition to the baked goods scene in Delhi. Yes, confectioneries are available in Delhi, some pretty good ones, but Cinnabon will, I’m sure, manage to beat them by a long mile. The difference IMO is the format and process oriented approach they take like most American chains. Traditionally found in malls, Cinnabon Delhi isn’t very different and can be found in DLF Promenade Mall in Vasant Kunj. What endeared Cinnabon to me was their end to end production process. The bread for their cinnamon rolls is made right there in the outlet, from beginning to end. If you look closely, you’ll find a large blender-like dough mixer, a proofer and ovens. That, my friends, is what fresh really means. Yes, I am waxing eloquent on the subject, but this kind of integration really gets me all warm and fuzzy inside – fresh bread made from scratch, sprinkled with butter and cinnamon on the inside, cream cheese and nuts on the outside resulting in a sweet, slightly chewy, cinnamon-y and really delicious roll that any coffee would be proud to accompany down your throat.
I tried their Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll and two other rolls similar in format, one topped with nuts and the other with chocolate. I also tasted their MochaLatta Chill and a small cup of black coffee. All good. Tasting good to the last bite, honestly made and speedily delivered, it doesn’t get fresher or nicer than this, especially if you want to rest your feet and fill up on a quick burst of energy to sustain your shopping spree. Delicately and evenly flavored with cinnamon, their rolls are mildly chewy, just enough to make you work to get that burst of flavor and topped with whatever suits your fancy – chocolate, cream cheese, nuts, caramel – whatever. It’s all good. The MochaLatta Chill is nice too, though I found it unnecessarily sweet. It could do with a little toning down. A lovely, chilled blend of chocolate and coffee, it’s served chilled, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Yup, indulgence personified. Cherie had some rolls too and even though she doesn’t have a sweet tooth, declared them as very good.
I learnt that the rolls are made fresh every 30 minutes and are transferred to boxes for take away (at reduced prices) after that period of time has elapsed, which too are discarded at the end of the day. The other nice thing is that the rolls keep at room temperature for 2 days all the rolls are made without eggs BTW.
Definitely a must try if you’re in the Vasant Kunj area… and even if you’re not.

Hey! Talking about the confectionaries in Delhi, the best I know is Wengers. Though, I am not sure if you have tried that out.
I recall eating Chicken Puffs from there along with bottles of flavored milk as a kid… not sure if it was Wengers.
Tried out Cinnabon at City Walk, n I dare you to walk past by the kiosk without stopping for a bite. Try out the cinnamon sticks…they are possibly the simplest of all the savouries sold there and is all so yummy!
