Summary:

Mozart cafe serves up some delicious food. Another must-try.

ThumbsUp Yet another ambitiously named cafe I thought, expecting to run into loud bollywood songs about dead grandmothers and and spicy bhelpuri. Nope. Mozart Cafe really does play a nice selection of classic symphonies that are such a relief after the techno-crap that’s so popular. Split into tastefully done indoor and white pebbled outdoor seating areas (covered and uncovered), Mozart Cafe has a lovely menu that appears to cover all bases. The good part is, they’re able to do justice to every dish from each of the very different cuisines on offer.

I tried a range of dishes and cocktails, both of which have a fair number of selections. You really won’t have a problem finding something to eat or drink at Mozart Cafe; the problem is over-ordering, an easily committed crime due to the very interesting nature of their menu.

Chicken Gilafi Try the Malai Kebab (325), a bread-encased mixture of herbs and cream, which I felt could have been a little more moist, but loved the textured outer casing of pan fried bread or maybe the Chicken Gilafi Seekh kebab (425), proudly sporting a gilaf of finely chopped colored bell peppers.

Contrary to a few opinions out there, the composition of the Gilaf on this kebab isn’t restricted to egg. You can use bell peppers, garlic, onions and just about anything you like.

The Kalonji Infused Chili Chicken Tikka (425), an ambitiously named dish that delivered; soft, succulent, well spiced and hot. Indian Lamb Chops (450) were a little iffy for me though the Mustard Marinated River Sole (425) lived up to it’s name delivering a sharp wallop of mustard with every bite. I hope you’ll try some of their very interesting cocktails (350). I checked out the Tom Yum martini, Mozart Fudge, Rosemarino and Curry Martini, all of which were distinct in their own right and very tasty… with the exception of the Tom Yum martini that I only loved after the addition of a little sugar syrup balanced the pungent chili and alcohol in there. The well done Stir fried Basil Lamb (425) needed a little more basil to float my boat while I believed the  Non Veg Mezze Platter (550)  to be excellent value for money – grilled chicken, sambusak and zaatar spiced prawns served with hummus, garlic mayo, pickled vegetables and pita.

Malai Tikka II We finished with a Chicken Scaloppine and Pork Chops; both done quite well. The pork chops were different from the usual ones due to the addition of an oriental sauce in the marinade, the name of which I forget. It had the effect of making the chops taste mildly sweet-and-sour-ish. The chops were served with polenta; I’d suggest mixing the polenta with creamed potatoes as it didn’t quite go with the sauce. Dessert were a Creme Brulee and a chocolate lava cake of which the latter was one of the best examples of it’s type I’ve seen – stuffed to the gills with molten chocolate and quite delicious!

You must visit Mozart Cafe and make an evening of it. The food is good, the booze reasonably priced and the ambiance supports a party… so go on and have one!
