Summary:

Boomerang appears to take it's custom for granted. I do not suggest visiting until they get their act in order.

Naheed, Tanya, Eman and I were invited to lunch by a friend, to Boomerang, a restaurant within the Boomerang Club at Jaypree Greens Golf and Spa Resort, Greater NOIDA. Having recently moved and perpetually on the lookout for new restaurants, we were excited and looking forward to sampling the fare at Boomerang. The lush green curves of the golf course combined with well designed interiors did raise expectations a notch.

A quick look at the menu revealed Boomerang to be a multi-cuisine restaurant. While the rest of the family ordered tandoori platters, Eman, Tanya and I decided differently. Eman and I chose a Fish and Chips (490) and Tanya asked for a Chicken Schnitzel (520). One doesn’t really find many restaurants now-a-days that serve food drastically tangential to one’s expectations; especially those that command high prices, where one naturally assumes the establishment has done it’s homework and while the food may not meet every individual diner’s tastes, it is correctly executed without much cutting of corners.

Boomerang unfortunately, appears to take it’s custom for granted. My ‘fish and chips’ turned out to be pre-breaded, perfect squares of golden fried fish along with the standard portion of frozen french fries. I thought them quite similar to the frozen packs sold by Sumeru. While one can understand a takeaway or a cafe resorting to serving frozen food, it does seem blasphemous when a restaurant that sets expectations the way Boomerang does, indulges so. Tanya’s ‘schnitzel’ turned out to be closer to a ‘partially crumbed chicken steak’, nowhere close to the well crumbed, hammered thin, crisp morsels of chicken that are so lovely for a carefree, holiday lunch.

Keep in mind that the term ‘fish and chips’ usually refer to batter coated fillets of fish, that are deep fried and served with salted, handcut fries and a few generous drizzles of malt vinegar. Why, then do restaurants assume they can get away with serving an inferior, different product without bothering to inform the diner during order placement?

Lesson learnt? Always check references before visiting a restaurant considering even those with a reputation to protect, resort to clumsy shortcuts, assuming the worst of their customer’s intelligence and tolerance.
