Sultanate, Sector 18, NOIDA

ThumbsDown Sultanate is a mistake that shouldn’t have been inflicted on NOIDA, a city where good food is already scarce. Serving a medley of dishes that try hard to establish a link with Muslim/Mughlai/Avadhi/Hyderabadi food, I couldn’t find a single dish to accompany a quiet read after an evening spent trudging after the wife, carrying shopping bags.

Mutton Tikka Egg Roll (100), Chicken Keema Egg Roll (110), Potato Masala Roll (50), Banarsi Paneer (130), Kali Dal Sultani (100), Ghosht Korma (130), Luqmi Parantha (20), Rumali Roti (10), Tandoori Roti (10), Coffee (30), Fresh Lime Soda Pitcher (120) and Iced Tea (50).

All the rolls oozed oil, enough to make me feel sick after a few bites. The mutton and potato fillings however, were well flavored and tasted very good. The Chicken Keema Egg Roll filling was bland and tasteless. The paneer, korma and dal were bland and watery, the coffee tasted of burnt milk, the fresh lime soda was saturated with kala namak (rock salt) and the iced tea was neither iced nor tea. The breads were fine with the exception of the Luqmi Parantha, which was saturated with oil.

If you do feel like a roll, try any of the street side joints, which do a much better job.
