There’s another frozen yogurt in town. “So what?”, you say, “There’s Cocoberry around anyway.”
That’s what I thought too, on learning about Red Mango’s entry into the Indian market, with a store in Ambiance Mall, Vasant Kunj. Not that I’m a fan of Cocoberry, having tried it twice, the second time to confirm my dislike of their very very cold product that left me with a numb mouth, clattering teeth and without any sort of flavor perception.
Enter Red Mango.
With five flavors available to customers in a self service format accompanied by loads of premium toppings, Red Mango, to my mind, is a far better choice than Cocoberry and not only because of the saner temperature they serve their product at. For one, there are no cup sizes (talking of yogurt here); pour as much or as little as you want. Moms with two kids will probably like this because it let’s them give both kids a cup each, with just the amount Mom knows they’ll finish. Secondly, there are no separate premium toppings; they’re all premium; including the flavors that are where they claim to be from. Finally, they don’t just serve yogurt; a range of sandwiches, wraps, cakes, muffins and coffees ensures you won’t have to move to another venue for your coffee or savories.
In a nutshell, you just need to enter the area, serve yourself some yogurt, slap on the toppings, perhaps squeeze over a dollop of chocolate and ask the staff to weigh and bill the cup for you at 1 rupee a gram including taxes.
I found the flavors in Red Mango yogurt to be very smooth, natural without the in-your-face, highly sweetened presence of artificial flavorings. The Chocolate was mild, slightly bitter, a little sweet and very subtle. Similar was the case with Strawberry – very subtle, pleasing flavors that allow you to finish your portion and enjoy it to the last bite.
We embrace health and don’t sell anything with fatty acids… you won’t find French fries, icing on cakes etcetera. – Rahul Kumar, MD/CEO of Maez One Retail and Food Pvt. Ltd.
While I don’t fully agree with Rahul’s statement above, considering we need fatty acids and all cholesterols shouldn’t be vilified, I do appreciate the sentiment. While we’re talking about Rahul, here are his favorite topping combinations.
| Flavor | Fruit | Non-Fruit |
|---|---|---|
| Madagascar Vanilla | Kiwis, Mangoes | Fruity Pebbles, Skittles, Marshmallows |
| Chocolate | Mangoes, Cranberries | M&M, Almond Crunch |
| Blueberry | Blueberries, Strawberries | Twix, Pocki Sticks |
| Original | Pineapples, Mangoes, Strawberries, Black Currants | Fruity Pebbles, Choco Flakes |
| Strawberry | Black Currants, Kiwi | Dried Pear Candy, Twix, Skittles |
You may or may not like the rest of their wares, but their core product, yogurt, is astonishingly good and I’m quite sure you’ll love the toppings.
