Located opposite the Ebony Gautier showroom in sector 18, NOIDA, Khaaja Chowk is housed inside an ‘under construction’ building, which is why I missed it quite a few times. You just don’t see it. When I did finally visit however, I quite liked the place.
The interiors are cramped and they seem to have spent more on the decor than ensuring their guests are comfortable. The Delhi Autorickshaw is the dominant theme here, what with one dismembered auto at the entrance, another inside the place serving as a table of sorts and lots of little ones under some of the glass topped tables. Do take a closer look at the decor – interesting concepts they have there.
The service is friendly and the food ordinary. Don’t get me wrong here. You definitely must visit the place and when you do, try the buffet – I guarantee you’ll like it. The food is nice, but nothing to write home about, in that it doesn’t distinguish itself from the hundreds of other kitchens churning out the same cliched north Indian food. Having said that, while you won’t be orgasmic about the flavor, you definitely won’t walk out fuming either. You go there for an enjoyable meal and that’s what you walk away with – nothing more, nothing less.
I’ve been there thrice now (trying to make it a habit to write only after a few times, to ensure I have the right experience) and have always come away without any grumbles, which is quite good, if you have any idea of my capacity to grumble. Try their buffet – when we tried it, they were serving Daal Makhani, Paneer Khurchani, Mixed Vegetables, Seasonal Vegetables, Chicken Saagwala, Mutton Rajala, Raita, Salad, Rotis (at your table) and Gulab Jamuns for dessert. The only grouse I have (see? there had to be something!) The menu for the buffet is rarely changed and the rotis sometimes take a while coming to your table.
Should you visit Khaaja Chowk: Yes, you should – it isn’t a gourmet delight, but it will serve you a faultless, hot meal done quite well.
