I was sorry to hear of Khan Chacha’s shutting down, as I’d never been there and most people I know couldn’t stop saying nice things about the place. Hearing of it’s re-opening, I resolved to go there and was finally pushed in that direction by Aparna Jha, a Facebook friend, who I met for the first time over lunch at Khan Chacha’s.
The entry was a little confusing for me, as there were posters of another restaurant placed at prominent locations inside, which initially made me want to look for another entry point. The insides looked unfinished and bare, with light bulbs hanging on naked wires and an unfinished ceiling. The airconditioning was surprisingly effective for the number of people crammed into that little room.
I forget each of the dishes we ordered, but do recall one to be a fish tikka of sorts, a mutton roll and a chicken roll. The prices were normal, neither high nor low. The food was quite bad, horrible even. The chicken and mutton were tough, the wraps were soggy, thin and torn, the fish was tasteless and even the chutney lacked flavor.
There was no service to speak of and what little interaction the staff at Khan Chacha did have with their customers was unhelpful and sullen.
For me therefore, Khan Chacha’s fails on all three fronts – food, service and ambiance. Even the raw material supply didn’t look right. I really don’t see what all the fanfare is about.

PS: Standing outside for a moment after lunch, Aparna and I saw this scooter pull up with plastic bags full of dressed chicken. The bags were lightly knotted with open gaps that allowed dirt to enter freely. They were also barely cool when touched- a fairly positive indication that putrification had begun.

Am surprised to hear this i have only heard out of the roof reviews about Khan Chachas, though i have personally been there only once. I kind of liked the decor the “Seekh” roof design at the center quite symbolizes the food theme. I didn’t like the hanging bulbs too. The audience is mainly college students so the pricing seems fine. I hd tried the kakori kebab and quite liked them.
@Sudeepa: So had I and was quite disappointed. Everything I tried wasn’t close to that of an ordinary street vendor from say, the NOIDA Sector 29 Kebab Market.
Finally someone who shares the same opinion….I too hadn’t been to Khan Chacha’s in its earlier avatar. Only to the new place. And it was just passable – Qureishi’s in Alaknanda makes much better kathi rolls I would say. Maybe the ambience could be to make sure the prices don’t change from the earlier outlet. However, if the meat is going to be suspect, then I’m out of here!
I think Salim Kebbabs are better then KHan Chacha
Recently i visited to the Khan chacha kabab corner which is in a posh market, khan market. I gone with my friends we used to visit there once in a month. Its not a very big shop but still when it comes to taste and quality it is the best. Many media persons go there and you can easily find khan chacha in many media articles. For full reading go to- http://www.delhiviews.com/?p=50
