Pizzaria Express – Great India Place, NOIDA [Closed]

[Rating:2/5]

Thought I’d pop in for a quick bite and read while the family shopped at the Great India Place. I’m gradually getting over my aversion to trying new places and Pizzaria Express looked as good as any other. It’s a new place started by a chap named Raghuvir Sahai. According to Mr. Sahai, he has extensive experience with pizzas and also has a pizza place in Vancouver. This is his first pizza venture in India. When starting a venture, he felt there were ‘too many Indian places’ and he also wishes to create a ‘new definition’ for pizzas.

Pizzaria Express is located bang next to the Food Court at Great India Place and can seat about 35. The first thing I noticed were the blown up photographs of a child eating pizza and some other photographs of food – these could have been professionally done as should the menu – all of which were obviously DIY attempts. The seating plan is bare, but comfortable with stone topped tables and padded chairs. The service was friendly and quite fast.

I do feel the fresh smells of baking are very important for a pizza joint (among other places) and these were missing here. In fact, did you know that the smell of baking in a house is rated as one of the top lures for people trying to sell their house?

I ordered a mid size ‘Traditional Pizza’, which was topped with , , ham, onions, mushrooms, green , black olives and . Quite an interesting combination I must say. They also have other choices on the menu such as Greek, Popeye and Maui Wowie. The other thing I noticed were unusual toppings like feta , fresh garlic, (ghia!!), spinach, tuna, and green (spring) onions. Also on the menu are racks of ribs, salads, wings and lasagna. I’ll probably be back for the ribs, despite my pizza not being up to the mark as you’ll find out below.

My pizza arrived quite fast and it did look good. The crust was somewhere between a thin and normal crust. Here’s where things started to go bad. Perhaps the shrimp weren’t properly drained or whatever, something in the toppings had let loose a load of water and the entire surface of the pizza below the toppings was drenched. This caused the surface to remain raw and doughy and in essence, uneatable. I did try eating it just to be sure I wasn’t mistaken, but couldn’t. The toppings constituted the rest of my meal. Also, there was no tomato sauce on the pizza, which made it lose some character, since there weren’t any other seasonings to speak of – but then thats me. Perhaps you’ll like it.

To summarise, I would probably visit again, as everything else was quite alright and my next pizza here will have less toppings. I’m also quite eager to try the ribs.
