Review: Taste of India, Centrestage Mall, NOIDA

[Rating:2/5]
We had friends over from Madras who wanted to visit Centrestage Mall. Being vegetarians, ‘Taste of India’ appealed to them, and off we went.

Before I begin describing our visit, one thing should be clear – Taste of India is no more about , service, quality, ambience or experience. It is purely about convenience. With the base expectation set that the will be mediocre, the service shabby, the quality below par, the ambience sub standard and the overall experience nothing to write home about – you’re all set to have a good time. If your expectations creep up a nano centimeter higher than that though – you come away like I did – irritated and puzzled, about how anyone can go wrong with such simple fare.

Back to the topic. We went there and ordered a Dal, , Malai Kofta, Mushroom, Toffee Apples with Ice , Jalebi Rabri, Penne Sizzler and a Platter.

The food, as I’ve mentioned earlier was expected to be quite down market and lived up to its reputation. The dal was thick after constant reheats, the kofta smelly, the penne sizzler burnt and stuck to the bottom of the platter and the rotis cold by the time we got them.

The crowning glory of the evening were the toffee apples – soggy, wet pieces of batter. Toffee Apples are pieces of , fried in batter, coated with caramel, then dipped in water to harden the caramel. These geniuses smeared the batter fried with a teeny weeny bit of caramel and then dunked it in water. Naturally, the pieces turned soggy and disintegrated at the slightest touch.

Taste of India used to be a nice place for the occasional vegetarian meal and a nice place to visit. Not any more.
