Rockman’s Beer Island, Ambiance Mall, Gurgaon

ThumbsDown Rockman’s Beer Island is a huge facility in Ambiance Mall, Gurgaon that claims to serve authentic German/Bavarian food with freshly brewed beer to go with it. Divided into three areas of which two serve food and drink on order, they’ve clearly spent a great deal of time and resources on the place.

suburb-icon We tried their Wheat (weiss) and Dark beer along with a platter of Weiners, Nuremberg sausages and Lamb Roulade to go with them. The beer was nice, but not quite there. The intensity of the flavor could have been better, seemed a little flat, and was closer to bottled beer than the good stuff brewed in house. Similarly, the food tasted good, but had a little distance to go. For instance the lamb roulade was overdone and the pretzels weren’t right. Similarly the sausages left something to be desired in terms of authenticity, though the accompaniments and the platter as just a meal were nice. If Rockman’s Beer Island aims to serve authentic German food, it has a little way to go. The food at Rockman’s Beer Island is also quite expensive.

Ed: I received a mailed feedback for the Suburb article, from Sandeep Pundir who as per JustDial.com is the F&B Manager at Rockman’s Beer Island. He essentially tries hard to convey that Rockman’s Beer Island is better than it’s competitors because it (a) is 1.5 years old (b) is the only one serving German food and (c) has imported it’s equipment from Germany. He also implies I’m clueless, but then I don’t claim to be an expert to begin with, so that’s perfectly fine.

I fail to understand how a restaurant becomes superior due to age, by attempting to serve a cuisine or by importing equipment. Do you?

Visit Rockman’s Beer Island if you’re not very particular about your brew or your food and want a nice place to hang out with friends and make merry.
